Let’s talk Pandemic….and COVID weight gain!

Can we talk Pandemic for a moment? I mean we all are going to have some post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from this crazy time we are in and I know many of us are going nuts over having to adjust to the new normalcy of life.

March 9th 2020 was my last sense of normalcy. I was en route to Syracuse, NY to meet my new boss and team. I work for a global company that specializes in environmental consulting and engineering and I have been with this company for 2 years as an administrative assistant.

Due to my husband’s recent orders of relocation with the military, I had to give my notice to my current boss here in Maine as the last date of 5/1. With this notice, someone heard through the grapevine that I was leaving the company and they felt their department could use my experience and still allow me to retain my job no matter where I was located; this means working remotely. long story short I nailed my phone interview and effective 5/1 I was set to transfer over to the Marketing department as a Marketing Project Manager.

On Friday March 13th I began my drive home from Syracuse and by now the news of COVID-19 is becoming more and more frequent. The entire time I was in Syracuse I was going out to lunch and dinner with my team and everything seemed so normal. Once I was home that weekend was the last weekend anything in Maine was open to the public and it was the last weekend my kids had of freedom before we got the alert of school being closed the following week.

School for my kids was closed for a whole week prior to them starting distant learning and we were also in the middle of packing up our house and preparing to move to a temporary location until we left Maine to do to Kansas in June.

Fast forward to August 2020 we are now in Kansas and getting settled in to our new home and new life; still in a pandemic, things are starting to ease. We have been very cautious during the last few months and have adapted to masks, clean hands, and being very aware of our surroundings. Thankfully we don’t know many people so we have no problem social distancing these days.

My two youngest kids just started school. BOY WAS THAT A TOUGH DECISION. I am a hypochondriac and struggle with germs and any sickness so it scared me. But they both showed responsibility of wearing masks and being aware of their hand washing on a daily basis. And the schools in our area are very low in numbers for enrollment. We are just 1/3 of the size of the schools in Maine.

At the end of the day the decision to send them in person vs online was I am already working full-time and cannot adhere to the online schedule for my youngest not to mention the 6 hours of logged work we would have to complete each day. I am not a good parent-teacher. I also think he missed social interactions (with what it is now, is better than nothing). I also want to say if you are a parent reading this and you chose to either send your kids to physical class or if you decided to keep your kids home, YOUR CHOICE WAS THE RIGHT CHOICE! Whatever you chose was the right thing for you. We need to all remember we are all in this together and we walk very different walks of life, but we should never ever put down a parent for a choice they made and maybe that choice gave them ten thousand grey hairs like me, but it was their choice. Parents need more support, we all do not have to follow the same path and even though we all have opinions, be sensitive to others choices.

We are all in this together.

Let’s talk COVID weight gain – this is real y’all! Like seriously. I lost 36lbs before I had my last baby over 6 years ago and i was at my lowest weight for my height. (5’2″ and 122lbs) And now I am my heaviest – even 2lbs heavier than before I lost all the weight…….. ugh 158!

But now that the kids are in school and we have a routine, I will be starting a 28 day challenge with Isagenix. I am excited to start this journey and commitment to become the best part of me! It’s not just about losing lbs, its about committing to a daily movement and being more aware of what I am consuming on a daily basis. And my office is in the basement so I plan to run up and down the stairs many times a day to keep my activity level up and commit to my movement!

If anyone else wants to join me the challenge starts after Labor day! https://uprootedmomma.isagenix.com/

And now that I am settled you can expect more posts to come. I apologize for the silent break but I AM BACK!
