Hey guys!
It’s been a while but for good reason; well good as in I’ve been working 2 jobs since March! Why? Because, why not…. But yesterday I got a visitor inside my mail truck…
During the day I am a mail carrier and at night I sell Lovesac merchandise! Plus I am a mom and a wife… whew…
Anyway, yesterday on my route I always approach the same set of mailboxes with newspaper boxes in between them.. which normally are used by birds in the spring; its a good safe place to hide a nest… right? Well depends.
This time I drove up and the mama bird was actually still in the box so I tried hard not to disturb her with pulling lids open and closing them. But as soon as I closed the first box, WHOOOOSH, she flew right into my truck! The opposite window was rolled up so there was no place for her to go so she just flew around freaking out for like 5 min (and pooping at the same time).
I couldn’t just proceed on my route and take her from her nest and let her hang out for the ride, plus it’s a safety hazard if a bird is flying around in your truck lol. So, I did what I knew how to do and that was to effectively catch the bird without harming her. Owning birds when I was young helped.
I turned off the truck which was in park, and yes the safety brake was activated and of course my hazards were already on…. and I reached over and tried to maneuver her closer to my window which was open so she could fly out… but she just didn’t get it, so I had to grab her… I was definitely afraid she would peck at me or bite me but I had to get going so I had to put the fear aside and just rescue her.
Once I grabbed her she squawked and she just sat there staring at me… so I grabbed my phone and took a photo because I needed a closeup of her beautiful face…. and it was a great memory to have… plus I know if I came home and told my kids a bird was in my mail truck they would want proof! Kids always need proof….but they can’t ever prove anything when trying to get out of trouble…. KIDS!
So here are a couple pics of me and BLUE… that is what I named her.. and don’t worry I sanitized my hands after I put her back in her nest where she patiently waited for me to finish my delivery and then she flew away but this time flew up and not OUT into my truck again.
